The media project "Appearance" demonstrates the dialogue of the artist Pavel Kaplevich with the main picture of Russian art of the XIX century - "The Appear-ance of Christ Before the People (Appearance of the Messiah)" (1837-1857) by Alexander Ivanov. After looking into the great canvas, making sketches and fol-lowing on from experiments and discoveries in the field of art technology and traditional crafts, Pavel Kaplevich presented his own interpretation of the painting and the process of the artist's work.
The world of sounds created by the composer Alexander Manotskov fills the space: the rustling of leaves, the songs of birds, and the purl of water wraps around the viewer, intensifying the effect of diving into the subtle substance of a transformed world arising from the Ivanov’s painting, the world of the appear-ance of Miracle.
“Appearance” is the realization of more than fifteen years of Kaplevich's work on creating unique fabrics. The artist discovered the enormous possibilities of the method of high-molecular tissue processing, which allows to transform one mate-rial into another: to reproduce the texture of the old Venetian cloth or to create the effect of a tapestry. By the will of the master, cotton "combines" with velvet or wool, golden threads are "sprouted" in the fabric, creating brocade effect, etc. Tested earlier in theatrical scenery, the unique material now "incorporated" the painting of Alexander Ivanov together with the sketches to it and presented the "Appearance of Christ Before the People" in its new appearance.
