The parallel project of the XIV International Architecture Biennale in Venice occupied the exhibition halls and the courtyard of the church of Santa Maria della Pieta. The project "MOSKVA: urban space" reveals the topic of the 2014 Biennale — Fundamentals — which was proposed by the project's curator — the architect Rem Koolhaas, as a retrospective look at the development of Moscow’s public space over the century: from 1914 to 2014. The story, starting with pre-revolutionary views of the city, guides the visitor through periods of the avant-garde, "Stalin's empire" buildings, the mass construction of typical projects, the architectural "carnival" of the turbulent 90s, and ends with a provisional "Moscow of today" — a presentation of "attractions", a diorama of the project "Zaryadye" in which night and day views of the future landscape phenomenon fade away yet are infinitely reflected in the mirror surfaces of the hall.
