Exhibition in the Engineering Building of the State Tretyakov Gallery
Moscow, Russia
Authors of exposition: Sergei Tchoban, Agniya Sterligova
The genre of architectural drawing was created in Italy by artists and architects inspired by the plasticity, power and perfection of local architecture. This graphic genre is intended at picturing buildings and parts of buildings, and portraying the relation of architectural masses to the context of surrounding space. The exhibition displayed drawings and watercolors from the collections of the Tretyakov Gallery and the Sergei Tchoban Foundation (Berlin), as well as works from private collections in Moscow and works from contemporary Russian architects. The exhibition was dedicated to Italian architecture seen through the eyes of architects and painters.
Throughout centuries Italy had been the Mecca for creative Europeans. The exhibition allowed to see the variety of interpretations of this country's art by artists and architects: from educational and documentary styles to dialogue of architectural fantasies, from worship of antique-era classics to admiration of medieval and baroque forms.
