The seven exhibition halls of the Enfilade of the Museum of Architecture demonstrated unique architectural graphics, models and photographs of the seven iconic buildings of Moscow: hotel Moskva in Okhotniy Ryad district, the headquarters of Izvestiya newspaper in Pushkinskaya Square, the Central Telegraph building on Tverskaya street, the Lenin Library, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, the Frunze Military Academy and the Academy of Sciences building. The construction of each of these buildings had been preceeded by major architectural and city planning competitions, the scale of which was illustrated by the abundance of exhibition objects. Individual stories of development of each site are also quite interesting – passions had run high. The decisions and the lives of project authors, the twists and turns of construction processes, political intrigues and the birth of the images we all know – exhibition materials allowed an insider’s view on the practice of competitions and the profession of an architect.
